Substitute Teachers

Thank you for your interest in working as a substitute teacher for Pueblo City Schools. We currently employ more than 260 substitute teachers.

Application Procedure:
Applicants must complete a Substitute Teacher application, present three letters of recommendation in regard to working with children, and transcripts confirming Bachelor's degree or higher or proof of acceptance into the teacher education program of an accepted institution of education.

Colorado Law Governing Substitute Teachers

A one, three or five year substitute authorization entitles the holder to perform s ervices only as a substitute teacher in any Colorado public school or school district. Follow the links listed below for specific information about each type of authorization.

A5S1 - Substitute Authorization (One-year renewable)

Pueblo City Schools has adopted guidelines for helping an applicant obtain a one year substitute authorization. If the applicant has received a one-year substitute authorization through another district in the state of Colorado, they still must comply with the guidelines listed below to be a qualified substitute in Pueblo City Schools.

This authorization entitles the holder to perform services only as a substitute teacher in any Colorado public school or school district. The substitute authorization (one year) may be issued to an applicant who:

Provides evidence of a high school diploma or equivalent as verified by the employing school district.
Provides evidence of successful experience working with children or youth as verified by the employing school district

Section 4.08

A5S3 - Substitute Authorization (Three-year renewable)
A substitute teacher application must be complete, with three letters of recommendation and a copy of your current teacher license. Only a professional teacher license, or a provisional teacher license or an (A5S5 five-year) substitute authorization will be accepted for substitute teacher employment. This authorization entitles the holder to perform services only as a substitute teacher in any Colorado public school or school district. The Substitute authorization (three year) may be issued to an applicant who holds at least a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.

A5S5 - Substitute Authorization (Five-year renewable)
This authorization entitles the holder to perform services only as a substitute teacher in any Colorado public school or school district. The Substitute authorization (five year) may be issued to an applicant who holds a valid certificate or license from another state, OR holds or has held a standard Colorado certificate or license.
