Early Childhood Education Program
Preschool
Pueblo City Schools' Preschool Program is based on an integrated approach to child development. Art, music, movement, language, science and
cognitive activities combine to immerse the child in an exciting preschool program.
We believe children learn best in an active learning environment that encourages
exploration and experimentation with a rich variety of materials. Through hands-on activities and the predictability of a daily routine, children begin to internalize and learn many concepts taught.
The purpose of our preschool program is to provide a quality preschool experience for children 3-5 years old who face educational challenges due to family, economic or developmental concerns. Young children who are in need of language development are at risk for school failure unless they can receive the support offered by early childhood care and education services. The ultimate goal of Pueblo City Schools is to stimulate and develop the necessary skills in young children so that they begin school ready to learn.
Preschool is supported by the collaborative funding efforts of programs such as Title I, Special Education, a
nd the Colorado Preschool and Kindergarten Program (CPKP). Pueblo City Schools is committed to providing an inclusive environment that supports the learning needs of all children. Federal laws such as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) ensure that public school early childhood programs serve children with disabilities, developmental delays, as well as children who may be at risk for developmental delays. This requires an inclusionary philosophy and a professional staff that is responsive to children and their individual needs. In our preschools, we welcome children of all learning styles, educational needs, and developmental challenges/ levels.
